MCGEE

Ashley is a graduate of Yoga Shanti’s 200-hour teacher training where she began studying with Colleen Saidman Yee and Rodney Yee and has been practicing yoga for more than 12 years.

Ashley values yoga as a science and union of the physical, mental, moral, and spiritual well-being of humans.

Ashley is inspired by achieving precise anatomical alignment and stimulating inquisitive, imaginative students. She aspires to create space where there is no judgement and where students have the time and space to feel each pose with intentional movement.

Ashley’s classes integrate an Iyengar-based approach, vinyasa flow, meditation, unique (sometimes live) music, and spiritual philosophy. Her background is largely rooted in creating artful, unexpected experiences where there is a shift from when the participant enters and exits.

Questions. Answers.

What makes a house a home?

Unconditional love, trust, feeling safe and warm, taking care of each other, cooking and eating together, imagination, laughter, music, flowers, and seashells.

What are you most passionate about outside of yoga?

Surfing and music. Both have been significant elements in my life since I was in my mother’s womb.

When have you felt the most proud?

My personal evolution over the past few years. My intimacy with fear, dissolving the obstacles, and moving closer to my truth. My re-evaluation of what is actually important to me and what is the true meaning of “success”. My dropping ideals of who I think I ought to be or want to be, or what I think other people think I should be. Now, life feels spacious, like the sea and sky.

Go-to Grounding Pose?

Tadasana, or Mountain Pose. I love starting my classes standing in Tadasana, balancing around evenly grounded feet, feeling our roots grow deeper and the earth beneath our feet.
