Maybe it’s because she’s been doing this for close to three decades, maybe it’s because she continues to study with the most revered leaders in the wellness industry, or maybe it’s just because she cares about each person in her classes. Marissa’s clientele includes celebrities and iron-man competitors, and she herself races in marathons.
She upholds numerous certifications, among them are: Medical Reiki Master, Hatha Yoga, Ishta Yoga, Yoga Therapy, Thai Yoga Massage, Healing Energy, Mat Pilates, Ballet Toning, Interval Conditioning, Resistance Training, Group Fitness, and several Indoor Cycling formats. Her popular classes have graced the tri-state area in yoga studios and major health clubs. Marissa even took her unique routines to Dubai, UAE where she lived and taught.
Marissa’s main teachers include Rodney Yee of Gaiam Yoga video fame, Yogiraj Alan Finger – meditation guru, Julie Kleinman – Director of YogaWorks LA & frequent author of Ask the Expert in Yoga Journal, John Friend – founder of Anusara Yoga, to name a few.
Questions. Answers.
Favorite Brooklyn Hang Out Spot?
Breezy Point Beach on a summer day… especially enjoyable, after the bike ride over the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge.
When have you felt the most proud?
Watching my oldest son run the Chicago marathon in exactly the time he set out to. Watching my daughter read a poem to her entire elementary school, that she wrote about bravery. Watching my middle son drive perfectly, at the age of 15. Watching my youngest son doing anything, and everything!
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Do what brings you happiness.” It’s not selfish; if you’re happy, all the people around you will be happy.
What about teaching Pilates inspires you?
It’s such a thrill to me, to have a room full of people, giving it their all, and they choose to laugh when they feel like crying. I’ve taught at all the major upscale health clubs in New York, and that is nothing, compared to the feeling of teaching in a neighborhood boutique yoga studio, where the students all become friends.
