ONEYOGAHOUSE

By Anna Haddad

At our ONEYOGAHOUSE Retreats, my greatest intention is to seamlessly integrate the 9 Universal Human Needs through shared experiences. Integration comes from the Latin root, integro, which means to renew, restore, make whole. With this in mind, meeting the human needs of our guests becomes a continuous process of feeling whole, of coming back home. Each group has been so unique, so inspirational. To all who have been a part of our retreats, your participation, your courage, your vulnerability, your love, your presence, your friendship, have been the greatest gift.

Universal Need 1 of 9: AFFECTION.

Meeting the human need for AFFECTION is one that naturally unfolds as we create an environment where our guests can feel safe and free to open themselves up to deeper connections. From day one, we break the ice, emphasize trust, communication, and mutual support. Through heart-centered yoga and meditation practices, we encourage participants to practice self-compassion, letting go, relaxation, and acceptance. We organize group discussions, sharing circles, and connection exercises that foster a sense of community and camaraderie among participants.

We place ourselves in beautiful locales around the world so that our guests can connect with nature and experience feelings of reverence for the natural world. We are always in awe of the expressions of kindness and appreciation towards one another, witnessing the building blocks of life-long friendships. AFFECTION stimulates a profound gratitude for one another, a deep sense of belonging, and a greater level of intimacy in our lives.

2 of 9: CREATION.

We facilitate the human need for CREATION and creativity through our mindful movement, meditation practices, and group sessions that encourage guests to channel their creative energy in positive ways as an outlet for self-expression and exploration.

We create moments for all to connect with their bodies and explore the possibilities of movement as a form of creation; we guide participants through visualization exercises and manifestation practices to tap into their imagination to create positive change in their lives; we facilitate storytelling, journaling prompts, collaborative projects and games that inspire all to contribute and root for one another; we encourage participants to cultivate a sense of curiosity, openness, and receptivity to new ideas and experiences. CREATION inspires participants to observe the beauty of their surroundings to embrace their creative potential, cultivate a sense of wonder and awe, and approach their practice with a spirit of curiosity and exploration.

3 of 9: FREEDOM.

Freedom is the undercurrent of our retreats, providing a safe and expansive backdrop where individuals are encouraged to explore, express, and embrace their individuality without judgment. We embrace the nuances of what it means to be free: freedom FROM, freedom TO and freedom FOR… as we draw upon our inner wisdom, lift our own vibration, and radiate what we draw in to serve others through the lens of mindfulness. The work we do releases us to be our best friends, to love ourselves, to embrace our shortcomings, to free ourselves from perfectionism, to give ourselves grace and see how much we have overcome along the way.

We cultivate an atmosphere where the layers of societal expectation and self-imposed limitation can be peeled away through mindful practices, allowing each person to explore the power of choice in their lives—choosing how they respond to challenges, choosing what serves their highest good, and choosing to live in alignment with their values and intentions. Through mindfulness practices, participants can develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, empowering them to make conscious choices that support their well-being and growth. Our varied yoga practices act as metaphors for freedom, offering moments to encounter personal boundaries and gently push beyond them.

4 of 9: IDENTITY.

Exploring the human need for IDENTITY is a central endeavor at our ONEYOGAHOUSE retreats. In an era where the Self can be continually reshaped by societal expectations and the noise of everyday life, finding and affirming one’s true identity becomes essential for inner harmony and wholeness.

At ONEYOGAHOUSE, we forge safe and empowering spaces where our guests can embark on a journey of self-discovery. Just as a gem is formed through pressure, so too are the facets of our identity shaped and refined by our experiences and introspections. Through a blend of reflective practices that deepen our understanding of our beliefs, values, desires, fears, and aspirations, soul-nourishing yoga, and purposeful meditations, we guide each participant toward gaining insight into their unique essence. We explore different modes of self-expression and cultivate a greater sense of authenticity, courage, and empowerment through the power of narrative therapy, storytelling sessions, personal journaling, intentional movement, breath work, vocalization, tapping, visualization, and sound.

5 of 9: PARTICIPATION.

The essence of PARTICIPATION is woven into the very fabric of our ONEYOGAHOUSE retreats, embodying the principle that everyone plays a vital role in enriching our collective experience. Participating means bringing your whole self to the retreat—your energy, your enthusiasm, your authenticity, and vulnerability to engage with, and learn from others.

From the moment our retreat begins, we foster an atmosphere that encourages active involvement and connectivity. Whether it’s through group yoga sessions that sync movement to breath, interactive workshops that challenge your minds and perceptions, or shared meals and group excursions where stories and laughter become the connectors of our souls, every moment is an invitation to engage more deeply with the community around you.

6 of 9: PROTECTION.

At ONEYOGAHOUSE, we understand that meeting the human need for protection extends beyond the individual. It encompasses the creation of safe, nurturing environments where open communication and respect are paramount. This care extends to the selection of our splendid retreat locales, which offer natural sanctuaries that not only protect, but also heal and rejuvenate.

We emphasize physical, emotional, and spiritual safety through practices designed to ground, guard, and protect your energy. These include restorative yoga poses, guided visualizations that fortify personal boundaries, and meditations designed to cultivate a deep sense of peace and security. In fostering a protected and serene space, we enable participants to lower defenses, which are ordinarily necessary in daily life, and embrace the vulnerability needed for true growth and connection. This approach ensures a protective sphere around our gatherings, ensuring each member feels safe to share, grow, and connect deeply with others and themselves.

7 of 9: RECREATION.

At the heart of our ONEYOGAHOUSE retreats lies the understanding that RECREATION is indispensable for holistic wellbeing. It’s in the playful, joyous moments that we often find our spirits rejuvenated and our essence renewed. Just as the earth cycles through seasons of activity and rest, so too do we require periods of RECREATION to balance the energies of giving and receiving, doing and being. Our approach to RECREATION encompasses a wide range of activities designed to spark joy, awaken the senses, and encourage light-hearted engagement.

From witnessing the sunrise to celebrate the new day and adventurous excursions off property, to games that encourage teamwork and laughter, and shared meals on and off property that tap into the playful side of our nature, each activity is an invitation to experience the liberating power of play.

8 of 9: SUBSISTENCE.

Meeting the human need for SUBSISTENCE at our retreats goes beyond mere survival—it’s about nurturing the body, mind, and spirit with intentionality and care. For us, subsistence encompasses much more than nutritional sustenance; it involves creating a holistic balance that feeds every aspect of our being.

We believe that mindful eating is a form of self-respect and an acknowledgment of the interconnection between all forms of life. Our carefully crafted meal plans are designed to rejuvenate and harmonize the body. Using locally sourced ingredients, we prepare meals that are not only delicious but also promote healing and wellbeing. Nutrition workshops and cooking classes introduce our guests to practices that sustain a healthy lifestyle beyond our retreats, underscoring the link between mindful eating, environmental sustainability, and of course, cooking and serving with love. Join us for a journey of complete nourishment and discover the deep satisfaction that comes from feeding not just the body, but also the mind and spirit.

9 of 9: UNDERSTANDING.

Meeting the human need for UNDERSTANDING within the supportive environment of our retreats is an enlightening journey into self-discovery and comprehension of the world. Understanding unfolds as we immerse ourselves in the practice of mindful learning and active listening—not just hearing, but truly comprehending the universal truths that reside within each of us and our connection to the larger cosmos.

At ONEYOGAHOUSE, we facilitate this journey with thoughtfully curated workshops and talks that challenge and expand the mind. Subjects ranging from personal development to the sacred teachings of yoga and meditation allow our guests to plunge into unexplored territory. We hope you can join us in lighting the path to self-awareness and providing you with the tools to confidently navigate your inner landscape.

We are excited to share our 2025 Yoga Retreat Offerings below: Cabo, Montauk, Santorini, and Marrakech/Essaouria. We would love for you to join us and experience the journey firsthand.

ABOUT ONEYOGAHOUSE

oneyogahouse
90 Furman St
Brooklyn, NY 11201

We are a yoga, pilates, and sound meditation studio located in DUMBO (an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass), next door to the 1Hotels in Brooklyn Bridge Park. As a community that prioritizes awakening our bodies, expanding our energy, and bringing movement to life, OYH offers a space designed to uplift and empower practitioners to ground themselves, undergo transformation, ignite their energy, and evolve in their yoga journey.

Driven by a passion for community, connection, and the transformative effects of yoga and meditation, yoga teacher and entrepreneur Anna Haddad founded OYH in 2020, and in the challenging landscape of the global COVID-19 pandemic, opened the Brooklyn location in September of 2021. Over the past several years, she’s built a team of some of New York’s most exceptional instructors. With safety, sustainability, and intentionality prioritized above all else, you can anticipate a yoga experience that’s not only accessible, but also mentally stimulating and geared towards personal growth.

We offer an array of classes suitable for every practice level.

We offer a diverse range of classes suited to practitioners of all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced yogis. Our yoga teachers come from all lineages and studies, from Katonah and Iyengar, to Vinyasa and Ashtanga. Whether you’re drawn to a hot, vigorous flow, a gentle, restorative practice, or a meditative sound therapy session, there’s something for everyone. Each class is thoughtfully designed to cater to different needs and preferences, ensuring that you find the practice that resonates with you.

Our most popular specialty classes include:

THE CENTERED ONE - MAT PILATES

Our pilates classes will challenge you in exercises that chisel your abs, tone your glutes, and sculpt long, lean muscles. You will use your own body weight, yoga blocks, magic circles, and resistance bands.

THE THERAPEUTIC ONE

This class combines a gentle slow flow and restorative yin postures and closes with a deep meditation session to explore the quietude of your mind.

THE FIERY ONE - HOT YOGA

This is a heated Vinyasa flow experience that is intentional, fun, and guided by the rhythm of the breath. Expect lots of movement with a focus on functional exercises. It’s an open-level class that’s powered by radiant infrared panels and an air purification system to minimize airborne dust, pollen, and germs.

THE STUDIOUS ONE - MASTER CLASS

Taught by senior teachers, master classes are an opportunity for intermediate yogis and teachers to deepen their practice through an extended study of the asanas. You’ll incorporate more advanced postures, yoga philosophy, and anatomical education.

THE FOUNDATIONAL ONE

This class breaks down the fundamentals of key yoga postures for both people who have never taken a yoga class and practitioners who have some knowledge of the practice but would like to renew and strengthen their foundation.

THE EMBODIED ONE - SOMATICS

Explore somatic movement exercises to help re-educate the way your brain moves, holds, and senses your muscles. You’ll commence class with an extended savasana and gradually enter into yoga asanas.

THE INTERNAL ONE

In this internal strength class using the Kinstretch® Method, focus on the determinants of your movement (i.e. ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue) rather than the external organization of movement (i.e. specific yoga poses). Through self-assessment, you’ll learn about your current range of motion and exercise more control.

THE ALIGNED ONE

Similar to The Fiery ONE, expect an open-level, but room temperature, Vinyasa class woven with elements of Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga, or Katonah Yoga. These yoga classes are intelligently sequenced at a slower, sweeter pace to ease you into the practice, allowing time for your body to adapt to movement. You are sure to break a sweat by building heat from within.

In every class, the teacher will ease you into practice, allowing time for your body to adapt to the flow and temperature of the room. No class is exactly the same, but overall, you can expect emphasis on mindful movement, mobility, alignment, breathwork, and drishti—a focused gaze—cultivating a sense of presence and awareness on the mat. Our focus on breath allows you to deepen your practice, quiet the mind, and experience a profound sense of relaxation and inner peace. You’ll be encouraged to listen to your body, honor its limitations, and explore your edge with compassion.

SOUND MEDITATION

Sound has been used for its therapeutic qualities for centuries. Sound Meditation experiences at OYH will guide you through an experience of pranayama, vocalization, and visualization to prepare for deep listening. You will be encouraged to find a comfortable position, and with eyes closed, take in the sounds emitted from instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, varying chimes and bells, drums, etc. These instruments, intentionally sequenced, create a safe space for participants to enter a meditative state to down-regulate the nervous system and create a sense of ease and clarity.

Our holistic approach to community and wellness.

At OYH, you’re part of a supportive and inclusive community from day one. Whether you attend classes regularly or drop in occasionally, you’ll find camaraderie and encouragement from fellow practitioners and instructors alike. The studio fosters connections beyond the mat, offering workshops, events, retreats, and social gatherings to support local businesses (like brunch and oyster shucking) where you can connect with like-minded individuals and deepen your practice both on and off the mat.

Our holistic approach to wellness extends beyond movement. In addition to regular yoga and pilates classes, the studio offers workshops focused on nutrition, mindfulness, self-care, and personal development. Whether you’re interested in exploring the benefits of Ceremonial Grade Cacao, learning about the Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) routine, or delving into pelvic floor therapy, there are ample opportunities to learn something new and nourish your body, mind, and soul.

Retreats offer immersive experiences that transcend the boundaries of the studio. ONEYOGAHOUSE retreats serve as rejuvenating getaways designed to allow participants to deepen their practice and forge new connections. Through carefully curated programs, attendees engage in daily yoga, breathwork, functional mobility, journaling, and meditation sessions, alongside modalities such as lymph work, kriyas, and vagal toning. Retreat members also enjoy chef-prepared group meals, outdoor adventures and exploration, cocktail hours, spa services, shopping and cultural trips, and more. Set in beautiful locations like Los Cabos, Mexico, Morocco, North Africa, and Montauk, New York, the retreat landscapes provide serene backdrops for self-reflection and relaxation.
